Frequently Asked Questions
- What are your hours?
- Our progress for providing books to children has changed. Now, we will bring books to your school based on your students grades and/or reading levels. Please call (909) 577-2584 to learn more.
- Where are you situated?
- We are on the campus of Curtis Middle School, 1050 N Del Rosa Dr, San Bernardino, CA 92410
- What kinds of books are available?
- We stock just about any kind of book for children and young adults, plus some teachers’ materials. We have board books, concept and picture storybooks for preschool students and early reader books, chapter books, biographies, fiction and informational books for elementary, middle and high school students. We do not include religious books or books that are in poor condition.
- Who can get books?
- We welcome classroom teachers with a badge/card from schools serving children in the San Bernardino City and Rialto Unified School Districts and San Bernardino charter schools. The books are for the children to take home and keep.
- How many books can I get?
- Each child receives one book.
- How can I find out about special events?
- When you register you will give us your email address and we will put you on our email list, or you can sign up online at the bottom of our Home Page. We will send out email blasts whenever there is something new happening. We will NEVER sell our email list.
- Do you have staff to help me?
- We are completely staffed by volunteers. There will be someone there who will be able to show you how the space is organized and assist you.
- Do you have boxes or bags to give me for carrying the books I have chosen?
- We do not regularly have boxes and bags, so please remember to bring your own.
- Can I get specific titles or books by a specific author?
- We get our books through donations, not by buying them. We never know what specific books are on the shelves. We cannot guarantee the availability of any particular title. We have four groups of books: (1) children aged 0-5 years, (2) elementary students, (3) middle-high school students, and (4) teachers’ materials. Within each children’s group there are categories, such as board books, picture storybooks, biographies, chapter books, fiction, informational, poetry, sports, etc. The books are not sorted within the categories.
- Can I get class sets?
- We sometimes have class sets. Each book is counted separately. You are restricted to five (5) books from a set. (If there is an exception to the number of books you can take it will be posted near those books.)
- Another person from my school already gets books from you. Can I get books too?
- We only serve classroom teachers. We are NOT able to accommodate Resource Specialists or Librarians.
- I homeschool my children. Can I get books?
- We are sorry, no, as our mission is to help schools that help children in need not individual families.
- How are you funded?
- We are funded by donations from generous individuals. Every donation helps. You can donate to the Inland Empire Children’s Book Project here. Please invite friends, businesses and service clubs you know to support us.
