<![CDATA[Inland Empire Children's Book Project - News and Events]]>Sat, 27 Jan 2024 21:16:40 -0800Weebly<![CDATA[Going strong and ready for 2024]]>Mon, 01 Jan 2024 03:35:40 GMThttp://iecbp.org/news-and-events/going-strong-and-ready-for-20242023 was a year of change. Before COVID, our model was for teachers to come to our book distribution site located in two large classrooms at Jones Elementary School. Teachers from the San Bernardino City and Rialto Unified School Districts would be invited twice each year to choose books for each of their students to take home and keep. In March of 2020, the world changed and the IECBP closed along with everything else.

In the summer of 2021, we moved to a single classroom at Lincoln Elementary School, but book deliveries did not restart until fall of 2022. We are very grateful for the space provided by the SBCUSD. The smaller location required a shift in our program delivery. With some trial and error, we began delivering books to schools in the winter/spring of 2023. With the help of volunteers from CSUSB's CAL-SOAP program, we were able to clean, organize and distribute books to entire schools at at time. That practice continues today.

Fall of 2024 will be the 10th anniversary of our founding and in February 2025, we will celebrate a decade of providing books to children. We opened our doors in February of 2015 and have provided tens of thousands of books since. We have been 100% volunteer since day one and could not have done it without the generosity of our volunteers and donors.

Join us as we celebrate and look forward to our second decade. More information about our plans will be coming out this spring.

If you are interested in donating, volunteering or otherwise getting involved please call (909) 577-2584‬ or email info@iecbp.org.

<![CDATA[We need your input]]>Mon, 04 Apr 2022 02:00:02 GMThttp://iecbp.org/news-and-events/we-need-your-inputWe are rethinking how we serve teachers
Happy Spring!

The Inland Empire Children's Book Project (IECBP) is a 100% volunteer, nonprofit organization with a simple mission of getting books into the hands of children who need them. Since opening our doors in 2015, we have distributed nearly 200,000 new and gently-used books. When books and teacher supplies are donated, IECBP volunteers clean and sort them by grade and subject (chapter books, early readers, informational books, etc). Books that are inappropriate for children are donated to organizations that serve adults.

Before the COVID-19 lockdowns, teachers were invited to "shop" at our Book Site located at Jones Elementary School on Monday and Thursday afternoons. At the time, we used two classrooms which allowed plenty of space to display books by grade and genre. Teachers at each school in the SBCUSD were invited twice a year to visit and choose one book for each of their students to take home and keep. Like everything else, the IECBP closed during the COVID-19 lockdowns.

In the summer of 2021, we were relocated to a single classroom at Lincoln Elementary School, so our model for book distribution is changing. This is where you come in. We have created a quick 6-question text survey to learn how we can best serve teachers and students. Please text IECBP to 909-280-7931 to take the survey and opt-in for our updates. We promise to respect your boundaries and not spam you.

<![CDATA[We've Moved and are Planning for Reopening]]>Tue, 28 Sep 2021 17:01:18 GMThttp://iecbp.org/news-and-events/weve-moved-and-are-planning-for-reopeningThe San Bernardino City Unified School District (SBCUSD) very generously provides space for the Book Project free of charge. Since 2016, we have been located in two classrooms at Jones Elementary School. We could not have asked for better relationships than what we enjoyed with both of the school's principals during our time there: Ramon Velasco and Crecia Robinson.

The SBCUSD must make decisions about where to house their departments and services in ways that best serve their students and families. Alas, the two classrooms that we occupied at Jones Elementary had to be repurposed and we have moved. The very good news is that we are once again working with Ramon Velasco at Lincoln Elementary. Our space is smaller but with COVID-19 distancing requirements, we are rethinking our distribution model anyway. We are excited to once again get books in the hands of children on a larger scale than what has been possible under COVID restrictions.

We will be making an announcement once our plans are set. You can still make monetary donations and we are always accepting children's books. We are a 100%-volunteer organization, so we are also accepting the donation of time from people who love books and children. ]]>

Students from Cypress Elementary

Your Book and Cash Donations Matter!

This is the last week of book distribution for the 2015-16 academic year by the Inland Empire Children's Book Project and we are so grateful for everyone who helped us to provide more than 26,000 books since we opened our doors in 2015. We will be sending out a newsletter soon recognizing our supporters and we would love to include you.

With summer upon us, we are in need of books. August will be here before we know it and we need thousands of books on our shelves to meet the needs of San Bernardino City Unified Schools. There are two ways you can help to get books in the hands of San Bernardino students:

1) Donate books for children. We especially need chapter books for 3rd - 6th graders, and fiction for middle and high school students. We will pick them up from your location (some restrictions may apply).

2) Donate cash to allow IECBP to purchase discounted books from First Book. Every dollar counts. Children's books range in price from $1.50 to $7.00 each. Books are distributed to entire classrooms so that each child in the class receives a book at the same time. Please click HERE to make a tax-deductible donation

Inland Empire Children's Book Project is a 100% volunteer 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of providing books at no cost to organizations serving children in need. Through partnerships like with the San Bernardino City Unified School District, we are able to fulfill our mission with very low overhead.

<![CDATA[Welcome Teachers of the SBCUSD]]>Fri, 14 Aug 2015 02:34:18 GMThttp://iecbp.org/news-and-events/welcome-teachers-of-the-sbcusdPicture
We are so excited to kick off this school year. Each SBCUSD teacher should have received a note from the district inviting them to visit IECBP on specific dates. We will also be emailing invitations to the teachers on our list (ones who have visited before) with the dates the teachers at their school are welcome to attend. In the first week (8/18 & 8/20) we will be hosting teachers from Arrowview Middle and Riley, Barton, Highland-Pacific, Monterey and Hunt elementary schools.

We will keep this invitation-only schedule throughout our start-up phase. We are constantly cultivating new sources of books and once our supply is large enough, we will open our doors to other districts and nonprofit organizations.

We thank all of our donors without whom this project would not be possible.

For more information please send an email to info@iecbp.org or call (909) 742-0346
